Course description
This course focuses on speaking in a performative setting. It is suitable for any practitioner in the performing arts field or in public speaking. In the course the basic exercises of mVm are introduced and practiced. The course strives to investigate what consists of an engaging performance or presentation through the lens of breath and voice. The participants will develop active presence, vocal musicality, strength, health and flexibility, which leads to speaking with ease on the stage.
Course objectives
- To familiarize the participants with the basic exercises of mVm
- To investigate various habits in breathing and speaking
- To enhance vocal expression in a performative setting
Requirements
- The participant is expected to memorize a text of their choice beforehand. The text could be in any language. The length could be about one minute or less.
- Bring movable clothing

About the workshop leader:
Yuko is a Japanese actor and teacher based in Finland.
She holds master’s degrees in Acting (University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, USA, 2007) and Theatre Pedagogy (Teatterikorkeakoulu, 2018). She has taught actor training methods at Teatterikorkeakoulu, Ilmaisuverstas, Kokkolan kaupunginteatteri, Teatteri Metamorfoosi, Työväen akatemia among others.
In 2024 she became a certified mVm teacher and has been incorporating the method into her work as an actor and teacher.
As an actor Yuko has performed in numerous productions in theatre, film and TV. Recent theatre credits include “Karvas pala” (2020) at Tampereen Työväen Teatteri, “Jackie- tyttö ja kuolema IV” (2024) at Teatteri Avoimet Ovet, ”Suomen mestari” (2023) at Aleksanterin teatteri, ”Mestari/Margarita” (2021) at Musiikkiteatteri Kapsäkki.
Recent TV and film credits include “Syke,” (2023-) “Kaverikirja,” (2022) and “Dual” (2022).
